Wussy Featured in Village Voice & on NPR's Fresh Air
FRESH AIR (NPR) Feature

Monday June 22nd 2009 Ken Tucker
"You can listen to Wussy as a concept album propelled forward by the band's buzz saw guitar riffs and tight little rhythm section. Just as Cleaver and Walker write most of the songs and either alternate lead vocals or sing them in harmony, the album itself becomes a short story
.."

VILLAGE VOICE: On the Cheerfully Combative Midwestern Noise-Pop of Wussy - The odd couple soldiers on
By Rob Harvilla, Tuesday, June 23rd 2009

"The heavily tattooed lovebirds of prey offer ragged serenades terrible and true at the Cake Shop, easily the closest thing to a dank Ohio basement venue on the Lower East Side, Lisa having apparently mellowed and cheered up considerably, bouncing up and down, her head nearly scraping the acoustic foam and Christmas lights affixed to the ceiling. Chuck, hirsute and bespectacled and gruff, complaining that his protruding gut is slowly turning his guitar into a "reverse dobro," is markedly less exuberant; he perfectly fits the profile of a guy named Chuck who used to be in a band named the Ass Ponys. Lisa's enthusiasm is hilariously incongruous; you sometimes get the feeling she's been kidnapped by a grouchy bar band and is just rolling with it."

SOME NEW PRESS FROM...

Rolling Stone New Music Report "There's not a weak track on this album"
PopMatters "Midwestern alt-country oddballs stay weird, bleak, funny."
Chicago Reader "stingingly poignant"
Crawdaddy "This band has one more interesting thing to say about romance and Ohio with each passing note."
(8/10) "Messy, seething passions in all their juicy splendor."
Robert Christgau's Consumer Guide Grade A: "This is as brutal a relationship album as Richard & Linda Thompson's 'Shoot Out the Lights.'"
